Hello! It’s late, I know. If you’re reading this in an email, I apologise for writing to you at 11 o’clock at night and 14.45 hours later than usual with no warning at all.
As this is The Honesty Box, I need to tell you the truth. And the truth is, I spent too much of yesterday asleep to write this.
When I was awake, I ate apple pie and drank sparkling water with some people (people I know) in a pub before coming home, having a baguette with cheese and going back to bed.
I’m not proud of my lack of productivity/exercise/life purpose but I am grateful that my lifestyle (single! no kids!) currently allows it on occasion. Let’s call it Self-Care Saturday and leave it at that.
Today, I spent more time awake and playing football with my nephews, which was very muddy and much fun.
I doubt you’ll have much to say about this behaviour, but if you have any grand confessions of laziness, do let me know!
So, a very brief Things I Like today.
One Day
I avoided the book (by David Nicholls) and the film (released in 2011 and starring Anne Hathaway) because I imagined both would make me bawl.
Now, I’m trying not to binge-watch the Netflix version of One Day with Ambika Mod (Emma) and Leo Woodall (Dexter) who play friends/potential lovers who meet at university on 15 July 1988 and are in touch on that date each year after that until … (I don’t know what happens at the end).
I’m only on episode three and am addicted to the ‘will they/won’t they,’ to the difference between them (he’s posh and privileged, she’s clever and more working class) and to their various adventures - he hangs out in Rome, she in a Mexican restaurant in London. I don’t know if it’ll beat the February blues, but it sure is great escapism.
Beyoncé does COUNTRY MUSIC
A week ago, Beyoncé effectively crashed the Super Bowl by releasing two new songs, essentially using her turn in an ad for a mobile network at the big game to promote her new music.
Bey has been wearing cowboy hats for a long time and the new tracks are firmly in the country genre. The up tempo one, Texas Hold ‘Em, is a very fun ditty I imagine will become my go-to karaoke song (it might be 10 years since I last did karaoke), and the slow one, 16 Carriages, has already made me cry.
She is the queen of marketing - and pop.
I’ll return next week with something less lazy and more profound, I’m sure.
For now, it’s back to bed.
Wonderful, I’ll count my sleep as meditation! Thank you.
I’ve got a karaoke machine at mine Lucy - there will be no backing down at the weekend 🎤🌟🪩
