Yep, I’m late to the party too as its now well into the new year. Happy belated birthday Lucy. I subscribe to a few Substacks, not many, (I have my own substack) and I am just terrible at reading newsletters that periodically plop into my in-box . I read your latest this morning, I just love your catchy conversational style and then scrolled through and landed on this. 47! I am a decade ahead of you. 47 seems so young and 58 sounds so … sshhhh … old. And yet I don’t feel 58. So, as I enter my week, make-up free most of the time, I am enjoying watching my spring bulbs grow. You described it so well and I’d never really thought about the planting of them in order to bring my future self joy and yet that is what I did. And I am so glad that I did, as every year passes with a promise of planting bulbs and for years that never happened, and this year it did, and I am so pleased I made the effort. So for now I shall get ready for the week. Get up, dress and face another dreary February day, dreaming of sunshine that one day will return. Best regards . “I often look at people in their 20s and feel like urging them to relish their youth, their flat stomachs, the sense that they are just embarking on the world in a way that they can never repeat.” Definitely this! You’re rocking that top and happy birthday. 🤩🫶🏻
I can't really say happy birthday as the date has passes but I can say that your thoughts stimulated me to think about these issues. I am older than you and - unlike you it seems - feel almost sorry for youngsters today. Much to say on this. :)
Happy birthday and thanks for this piece! I’ll be 47 myself in 4 months, so it felt good reading your words :)
Happy birthday Lucy! Keep on rocking!
Happy birthday Lucy! Gorgeous in every way - today and every day x
